Frequently Asked Questions

A periodontist is a dentist who has limited his/her practice to treating the many diseases of the gum and bone surrounding the teeth. Periodontists use techniques that can help slow down gum disease and sometimes reverse it. Periodontists also place implants, bone grafts, and extract teeth. Gum treatment allows you to keep your teeth longer, eat more comfortably, and improve the appearance of your mouth. Periodontal health is also vital to overall health, with increasing evidence showing links to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, pre-term low-birthweight babies, pneumonia and other medical issues associated with poor oral health.

Please call our office at 905-532-0222. When you schedule an appointment, this time is reserved specifically for you and nobody else. Thus, Dr. Braun is able to provide his full attention to your needs. If you need to change your appointment, we ask for 2 business days notice, otherwise there may be a broken appointment fee. Please arrive 15 minutes early for your first appointment to fill out forms. Please bring the Referral Form your dentist filled out and any physical radiographs (x-rays) they may have given you. We will try to obtain digital radiographs from your dentist whenever possible.  You may speed up the process by filling in this New Patient Form and saving it. You can either bring it to your appointment or email it to us at frontdesk@braunperio.com.

Our office is non-assignment and therefore does not accept direct payment from your insurance. However, we can help you fill out and submit insurance forms and can electronically submit pre-determinations and claims. In return for this benefit, we ask that you please provide full payment at the time of service. For your convenience, the office accepts VISA, MC, cash and debit.  Please note that since your insurance policy is a private contract between you and your insurance company, we cannot be held responsible for any changes or delays in your benefit.

The cost of your first visit (consultation appointment) is covered by most insurances and is needed to allow us to perform a complete examination of your mouth, diagnose your condition and recommend treatment options. The cost of treatment will depend on the complexity of your care and the options you choose. Part of our philosophy is to provide you with several options to suit your time and budget. It is important to note that preventative periodontal measures to maintain and prolong your existing teeth are usually far less costly than having to replace them with similar non-removable dental substitutes (e.g. bridges, implants).

No. While we appreciate and obtain most of our patients through dentist referrals, we do have some patients that find us online or are friends/relatives of existing patients. We are happy to see you and provide diagnosis and treatment but since we specialize only in your gums, we would want to share our findings with your dentist (or help you find one) so that you can have comprehensive dental care. As always, we appreciate your referrals.

Yes, we have a hygienist and can offer you dental hygiene appointments. Normally we prefer to alternate hygiene visits with your regular dentist. When you are at their office, they can still monitor your teeth for cavities, while we would check on your periodontal condition. Even if you just want to see us for hygiene, it is important that we first have a thorough examination appointment to rule out any major issues that may need to be addressed.
